Ex-Deputy Senate President, Ekweremadu To Spend Christmas In Detention.

The Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, will miss both Christmas and New Year celebrations, as a Court in London has refused his fresh application to be released on bail, pending the determination of the case against him.

The court, in a ruling on Tuesday, held that he still posed a flight risk, despite letters of attestation from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Nigerian High Commissioner.

The court relied on the assets forfeiture case the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, initiated against him before the Federal High Court in Abuja, as well as the fact that Ekweremadu is in possession of the international passports of two other countries that he could easily escape to.

The London court has fixed January 31, 2023 to begin full-blown trial of both Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, who were accused of sponsoring one David Ukpo to the United Kingdom for the purpose of harvesting his organs.

Ekweremadu’s wife is currently on bail.
